Episodic is built by and for people navigating chronic illness and disability. Accessibility is not an afterthought it is part of our core mission. We are committed to making this platform usable by everyone, regardless of how they access the web.
Our commitment
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. This means every page is designed to be perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for all users including those using screen readers, keyboard navigation, voice control, or high-contrast modes.
What we've done
- check_circleSemantic HTML proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions, and meaningful alt text on images.
- check_circleColour contrast all text meets at least a 4.5:1 contrast ratio against its background.
- check_circleKeyboard navigation all interactive elements are reachable and operable with a keyboard.
- check_circleReadable typography body text is set at 16–18px with generous line spacing. No text is smaller than 12px.
- check_circleAnonymous publishing contributors never have to disclose personal information to participate.
- check_circlePlain language we write plainly. Legal pages, submission guidelines, and FAQs avoid jargon.
Known limitations
Episodic is a young platform built by a small team. Some areas are still being improved:
- pendingFull keyboard trap prevention in modals is in progress.
- pendingMobile screen reader testing is ongoing.
- pendingPDF resources will include accessible tagged versions.
Energy & access considerations
We know that many of our readers are managing conditions that affect energy, concentration, and screen tolerance. With that in mind:
- check_circleAnimations can be reduced we respect your OS-level "reduce motion" setting.
- check_circlePages are lightweight and load quickly on slow connections.
- check_circleThere are no autoplay videos or sounds.
- check_circleThe site works without JavaScript for basic reading.

If you encounter a barrier something that's hard to read, hard to use, or just doesn't work with your assistive technology please tell us. We take every report seriously and will prioritise fixes.
